A CV should be easy to scan, but a career is often too complex to explain in one or two pages. My solution is a PDF CV with links: the PDF provides the summary while the portfolio website provides the details and evidence.

Why a PDF CV with links works

A recruiter needs a CV that can be scanned quickly, but a complex career rarely fits into one or two pages. Adding every responsibility and project makes the document difficult to read; removing them hides valuable experience.

My linked PDF CV uses two connected layers: the PDF provides the concise summary, while the portfolio website provides the details and evidence. Each position includes a direct link to its own experience page, so the recruiter does not need to search through the website.

How it works for a recruiter

  1. Scan the short PDF and identify a relevant position.
  2. Open its direct link only when more detail is useful.
  3. Review responsibilities, markets, projects, results and supporting material online.

The PDF still works independently for email, recruitment software, offline reading or printing. The website adds depth; it does not repair an incomplete CV.

A format designed for the future

Recruitment is becoming more digital, international and evidence-based. I try to anticipate future requirements and create practical solutions aligned with them. A linked PDF and portfolio combine a familiar first-review document with a deeper source that can show projects and verify experience.

It is also a more responsible use of resources. Paper comes from wood and should be used when a printed CV is genuinely required—not automatically at every recruitment stage. The digital version remains easy to share, while the PDF can still be printed for an interview or formal process.

Short PDF for speed. Portfolio for depth. Paper only when it adds real value.
